Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning Needs You
For the past few years, every September my mom and I have taken part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. We LOVE to bake – a passion we now also share with my 11 year old daughter Evelyn, who has been baking cakes almost since she was able to hold a spoon! It has been fun and enjoyable getting together with friends, neighbours and work colleagues, and we have helped to raise much needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Care along the way. Like SO MANY families out there we have been dealt more than our fair share of bad luck where cancer is concerned. Fortunately we have some survivors: my youngest brother was diagnosed when he was 6 weeks old and he’s just turned 28. My grandad had his first treatment over 20 years ago and is about to turn 80. Amazing! However, the others weren’t so lucky, and we have been incredibly grateful for the care and support given by the Macmillan nurses in the past. So doing what we can to give a little back is extremely important to us.
This year sadly, due to the current situation we find ourselves living in, we are obviously unable to organise a “proper” coffee morning. I was determined however, that one way or another we would still make some kind of donation, so as we say in school, I put my thinking cap on, and it came to me – if we can’t sell cake, what better alternative than a snap bar that SMELLS like cake: hence “The Showstopper” was born (my little nod to all the Bake Off fans out there)! The scent I have used is described by the supplier as “a novel scent of mouthwatering birthday cake, depicted by a blend of fresh fluffy sponge, encasing whipped double cream & fruity strawberry jam. Finished off with a layer of sweet smooth pink icing and a generous dusting of icing sugar”. So, this is where you guys come in – if you like sweet smells you will particularly love it, but who doesn’t love the smell of cake?! For every bar you buy £1 will be donated to Macmillan. Since I launched the Showstopper at the beginning of the month I have been blown away by your response. THANK YOU to everyone who has bought one already, and if you haven’t yet, you still have time.
This Friday, 25th September marks the 30th World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and they need us more than ever. Please join us in raising a mug to the heroes that are Macmillan. Put the kettle on, snap off a piece of Showstopper and pop it on to melt. 5 minutes and the house will smell like …. well …. a blend of fresh fluffy sponge, encasing whipped double cream and fruity strawberry jam…
